Optio Solutions Staff Reaches 20 Straight Months of Volunteerism

Petaluma, Calif. (Dec. 26, 2019) — Staff members of Optio Solutions and affiliate, CrossCheck, have reached 20 straight months of volunteer work at the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa. Averaging 12 volunteers per month, the team last participated in the food bank’s weekday Warehouse Support program on Dec. 17.

The philanthropic effort was initiated by CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles Dortch III in May 2018.  He continues to organize the team from the corporate headquarters in Petaluma and works a monthly two-hour shift at the food bank with his colleagues.

optio solutionsThe 2019 yearly contributions represent about 424 man-hours, 110,768 pounds of food, and 92,272 meals for people in need. The team helped pack a combination of grocery boxes, non-perishable items, and fresh produce.

“A group of over 30 staff members participated one or more times during the year,” said Dortch. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community and get to know fellow workers.”

He is joined by other senior vice presidents as well as Optio President and CEO Chris Schumacher.

“The food bank is a tremendous asset to our community,” said Schumacher. “Our employees end their volunteer shifts with a sense of accomplishment knowing they helped feed the hungry.”

The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County while striving to end hunger in the community.

Evening Warehouse Support shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 5 – 7 pm, but a variety of other volunteer opportunities are offered throughout the week (see the REFB Volunteer page for days and times.)
