Volunteers from Optio Solutions Make 17 Straight Months at REFB

Petaluma, Calif. (Oct. 9, 2019) — The volunteer effort by staff members of Optio Solutions and affiliate, CrossCheck, has reached 17 straight months at the Redwood Empire Food Bank. The latest event was Sept. 25 when employees and family members took part in the food bank’s weekday Warehouse Support program. That participation entailed packaging food boxes on an assembly line.

The year-to-date totals (January – September 2019) by company volunteers include packing 1,956 grocery boxes, 2,650 pounds of non-perishable items, and 26,422 pounds of fresh produce. The numbers represent over 300 man-hours and approximately 74,682 meals for people in need. The team is composed of 12 volunteers per month on average.

CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles Dortch III launched the unified effort in May 2018. He continues to organize the monthly participation and is on site each month to help pack food.

He is joined by other senior vice presidents as well as Optio President and CEO Chris Schumacher.

“Our monthly volunteer night at the food bank is a great opportunity for CrossCheck and Optio employees to engage in local philanthropy while interacting with members of other company departments,” said Schumacher.

The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County while striving to end hunger in the community.

Evening Warehouse Support shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 5 – 7 pm, but a variety of other volunteer opportunities are offered throughout the week (see the REFB Volunteer page for days and times.)
