Petaluma, Calif. (September 11, 2017) — Optio Solutions, an accounts receivable management firm, has appointed Alicia L. Durand to the position of in-house counsel and manager of corporate compliance. She reports directly to President and CEO Chris Schumacher.
Prior to joining Optio Solutions, Durand fulfilled several positions at the Sonoma County Office of the District Attorney between January 2009 and August 2017. She spent the past 12 months as a deputy district attorney in the misdemeanor unit.
“Alicia’s diverse experience in the criminal justice system is a great foundation for her role as in-house counsel,” said Schumacher, “and her demonstrated leadership will be invaluable to our compliance training and quality assurance programs.”
In her new position, she will be responsible for managing Optio’s Corporate Compliance Program, including the development and implementation of policies, procedures and training related to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and other laws. She will also direct compliance with state and federal agencies such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
“Not only is corporate compliance mandated through regulations,” said Durand, “but it is essential for our company to continually monitor and train in the area of regulatory compliance in order to compete in the marketplace.”
Durand earned a Juris Doctor and Master of Legal Studies at Empire School of Law after graduating from Sonoma State University with a Master of Business Administration (cum lade) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (magna cum lade). She received a Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in Moot Court (2014) as the Top Oralist.
